Pre-Season Top 5

Postby lechg31 » Thu Jun 30, 2016 6:26 pm

Right now my pre-season top 5, in order, are Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, Oregon and Wisconsin. What do you guys think? Should Kansas be in there? Does any one of those not belong?

I think it looks solid. I do think Kansas is close if not in there. Not certain about Oregon though.

Why would you not have Duke first? They are clearly the most talented team in the country.

Also I'm glad you are on the Oregon and Wisconsin bandwagon now and are not telling me I'm an idiot for having them in my top five earlier in the off-season!

Well when Oregon returns Boucher, Dorsey, Brooks and now Dylan Ellis gets a 6th year of eligibility its hard not to have them there. They walked through the PAC 12, I think they are a Final Four contender even without Dwayne Benjamin and Elgin Cooke. Ethan Happ, Bronson Koenig and Nigel Hayes have me thinking that Wisconsin will be good. About Duke, I felt biased putting them at 1 even with a talented class plus Jefferson, Allen, Kennard, and Matt Jones returning.

For Oregon and Wisconsin, that was all pretty much understood after the season ended. Players wouldn't have been drafted high anyways. What changed your mind? And there has to be another reason to not put Duke number one. Great coach, great recruits and returnees.

Looking deeper into what Oregon has returning for sure now made me really high on them. I honestly wanted to put them higher than they are but it is difficult to say since Duke and UK have huge ceilings while Oregon has a very high floor right now but their ceiling is not as high.

If I really took some time to think about it I might even put the Ducks over Nova.

UK and Duke are easily top two. I also like Nova. I could see Kansas, but I also think UNC and Oklahoma deserve some respect too.

I just don't get if Duke has better players and a legendary coach, how they aren't number one. Glenn should explain his feelings.
